Falahari Dum Aloo is a simple recipe unlike other Aloo Dum recipes. This Vrat ke Aloo dum is very easily made with simple ingredients. Falahari food is made without onion and garlic. This Jain recipe is delicious and a good change during the fasting day’s especially during Navratri as we fast for eight days and consume only falahari food.
This falahari Aloo Dum recipe is super easy but delicious. Made with few common ingredients easily found in your pantry this satvik dish pairs well with singhara paratha, Rajgira ki puri and Singhade ka chilla. Rock salt or Sendha Namak, also known as Upvas ke Namak is preferred to regular salt during a vrat and ghee or peanut oil is mostly as the cooking medium instead of seed based oils.

Ingredients for Falahari Dum Aloo
200 grams boiled potatoes cubed
1 cup dahi (yogurt)
1 teaspoon ginger paste
2 tablespoon mint leaves
1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder
1 teaspoon coriander powder
2 cloves
2 cardamoms
Rock salt to taste
1+1 tablespoon coriander chopped
2+2 teaspoon ghee
Directions for Falahari Aloo Dum
- In a ginger paste, chilli powder, coriander powder, mint leaves and 1 tablespoon coriander.
- Add dahi (cur) and mix everything well to a paste.
- Heat 2 teaspoon ghee in a nonstick pan, add potato and sauté till pink.
- Remove it and keep aside.
- In the same pan add the cardamoms, cloves and red chilli powder.
- Add the grinded mix paste. Add fresh coriander leaves. Sauté till it leaves oil.
- Now add the potato and stir for a minute till the potatoes are coated. Add water and cook till ghee. starts to come on top and the desired consistency is achieved.
- Garnish with rest of the coriander and serve.
