Foxtail Millet Upma is made similarly like rava upma but it is healthier. This upma is equally tasty and gives you a good start for the day if consumed for breakfast.
Foxtail Millet is known as Kangni in Hindi, Thinai in Tamil, Korra in Telugu, Navane in Kannada. Serve this with our Tomato chutney, Onion chutney or Coconut chutney.

Ingredients For Foxtail Millet Upma
½ cup foxtail millet
1½ cups warm water
1 onion chopped
4 beans chopped fine
2 tablespoon carrot grated
½ teaspoon ginger finely chopped
1 teaspoon garlic finely chopped
1 tablespoon curry leaves
2 tsp chopped coriander leaves
1 dry red chilli
Pinch of turmeric powder
Salt to taste
1+1 teaspoon ghee
Direction for Foxtail Millet Upma
- Heat 1 spoon ghee in a pan; add the millet and roast on low heat till it starts to change colour. Switch off the heat.
- Heat ghee in a pan; add the mustard, red chilli and then add ginger, garlic, onion and saute for a minute.
- Add the beans, carrot and saute for 2 minutes.
- Now add the millet and stir for 2 minutes.
- Add haldi, salt and mix.
- Pour in the water, stir, and cover and cook till the water is absorbed.
- Add lemon juice and dhania and mix.
- Serve with chutney of your choice.
